It was the end of 2019. My family and I had traveled to Sierra Leone with a group of Gullah Geechee travelers to bring in the new decade. In the mountain village of Old Yagala, Sierra Leone, I met this little girl. She stood next to me looked up and smiled. It was a joy to have her come to life in my studio in 2021 as part of my Seeds and Cycles series. It's also the last canvas I embroidered. Hard work!
