My son was the perfect model for Sea Island Angel II. I love his eyes and the little quirk in his smile. In keeping with the companion painting, Sea Island Angel I, shells also form his wings. The sea urchin shell that is part of his halo, insisted on being a part of this painting. I was walking the beach one morning when I came across a stretch of sand that was covered with sea urchin shells. Normally I come across them one-by-one, but this was like stumbling onto a treasure trove! I carefully filled my pockets and went home to paint. The original is 12" x 12" oil on board with 24k gold leaf and is in the collection of a Charleston, SC collector.
