I see nuthatches at my feeders. This morning a nuthatch, a titmouse, a cardinal and a wren were all hanging out together! This was the first stitched gourd, inspired by the work of sweetgrass basket makers. I wished I could weave or sew baskets, but then I had the idea to stitch instead. I drilled holes in the gourd, painted it and began stitching. A nest! So I lined the inside with hand-painted paper and sculpted little nuthatches out of clay. After this I wanted to keep on stitching gourds!
