Saint Septima Clark was a Civil Rights activist and educator from Charleston, SC. Her work continues to impact me. This painting was inspired by Brian Lackey's photo of Ms. Clark for the cover of the photo book I Dream a World. The SC State flower, the yellow jasmine, surrounds her.
